Know Your Fireplaces

Deciding which type of fireplace is right for you can be a challenge, but we’ve put together some quick basics to help you make your decision with confidence:

Direct Vent – Direct Vent gas fireplaces are fireplaces that can be vented either vertically or horizontally. These types of fireplaces do not require a masonry chimney chase in order to properly vent, making them relatively easy and painless to install.

Decorative B Vent – Decorative B Vent gas fireplaces must vent vertically through the roof, and are enjoyed because they deliver an incredibly realistic looking flame. These fireplaces aren’t known for providing much heat, which is why most homeowners choose them mainly for decorative purposes.

Electric – Electric fireplaces provide ambiance and heat with the use of electricity (as opposed to wood or gas), meaning they don’t require a working chimney or venting system in order to operate properly. Some electric fireplaces are designed to be inserted into a masonry fireplace, while others come equipped with a mantle and hearth.

Factory-Built – Factory-built fireplaces can be wood- or gas-burning, and are constructed in a factory, as opposed to on-site. These systems are made of metal and wood, but are often stylized to resemble traditional brick. With a factory-built fireplace, it’s incredibly important that the manufacturer’s installation specs are strictly followed; otherwise, the safety and efficiency of the system will be compromised.
